What’s included in the adoption process at no cost to the mother?
Does it cost money to place a baby for adoption? No. Our adoption services are always free and confidential to you. Your Legacy options counselor will explain what’s included, answer your questions, and help you understand what to expect as you make your plan.
- Counseling services. From your first questions about adoption to choosing a family and making your hospital plan, your options counselor is here to listen and support you. You’ll have lifetime access to adoption-related counseling at no cost to you, including after placement.
- Legal services. We’ll help coordinate the legal steps of your adoption at no cost to you, and help you get your questions answered before signing. If you’re an expectant mother with an active adoption plan, we offer a consultation with a separate attorney at no cost to you. All expectant parents are also welcome to consult their own private attorney at any time, whether or not they have an adoption plan with Legacy.
- Medical fees. Legacy covers your pregnancy- and delivery-related medical expenses, including prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and related recovery care. That includes care for pregnancy-related complications. Your options counselor will help coordinate the details. If a bill arrives, let us know so we can help get it taken care of.
- Managing other financial aspects of adoption. The state of Florida allows for certain living expenses to be covered in many cases during a mother’s pregnancy, if she chooses adoption. This may include your housing, utilities, groceries, and transportation to and from your doctor’s appointments. We can help you determine your eligibility to receive this extra level of financial assistance to secure your health and safety during your pregnancy, and will coordinate these payments at no cost to you.
