A mother of an adopted daughter, Karen Capson feels honored to work with the Legacy Adoption family and seeing her personal experiences and passion for adoption come full circle. She serves as our community partnership manager, working closely with our Florida adoption partners to support every aspect of the adoption journey for adoptive-parents-to-be and parents who choose adoption for their babies.

A graduate of the University of South Florida, Karen Capson holds an education degree with a concentration on specific learning disabilities. She spent several years teaching special education, where she was able to put to work her compassion, patience and desire to adapt curricula to meet students’ individual needs so they could reach their greatest potential. Though she earned the title of “Teacher of the Year,” she was perhaps better known for marrying the Canadian-born professional hockey player who visited her school for a public appearance.

After eight years of marriage, Karen Capson and her husband were thrilled to adopt a beautiful daughter. Creating their family through adoption opened the door a harmonious and fulfilling relationship with their child’s biological mother. Feeling such gratitude for this woman’s selfless gift, she went on to write a children’s book about their family’s adoption story and become a strong adoption advocate.

She remains grateful for the adoption process that gave her daughter an experience that has led to a strong sense of identity and self-worth, as well as an understanding of the purpose in her creation. Her family’s wonderful journey with adoption is what led her to serve as our community partnership manager, working in concert with our Florida adoption partners to help create beautiful adoption experiences for others.

With her daughter successfully launched into adulthood, Karen is enjoying traveling with her husband, baking, decorating, crafting and playing mahjong.
